Artificial Intelligence, Consciousness and Ethics

  • Sakya Buddhist Center, Los Angeles 220 Pier Avenue Santa Monica, CA, 90405 United States (map)

Join us for a timely and engaging morning talk exploring Artificial Intelligence, consciousness, and ethics — topics that are rapidly reshaping the world around us. AI now influences nearly every aspect of our daily lives, sometimes for great benefit and sometimes with real risks. Together, we’ll examine its impact through a Buddhist perspective.

We’ll explore big questions: Could AI ever become sentient? What is the true nature of consciousness? How do we understand ethical responsibility in an age of intelligent machines? Just as importantly, we’ll reflect on what AI means for each of us personally—how it shapes the way we live, make choices, and cultivate wisdom and compassion in modern life.

Drawing on the ancient insights of Buddhism and his experience working in the technology industry, Paul will guide a thoughtful exploration of these urgent issues, with plenty of time for open discussion.

As part of our ongoing series, we will also continue our monthly practical spiritual challenge, designed to help us stay accountable and deepen our practice throughout the year.

All are warmly welcome to this fascinating and relevant conversation.
