Bringing the Buddha to Los Angeles

Celebrating 15 Years of Dharma with a Golden Offering

This year marks the 15th anniversary of Dechen LA - Sakya Buddhist Temple, a milestone that reflects the strength, growth, and flourishing of our temple and community here in Los Angeles. To honor this special occasion and deepen our connection with the Dharma, we are launching a heartfelt appeal:

We are commissioning a magnificent 5-foot gold-gilded statue of Shakyamuni Buddha to grace our shrine room—a timeless symbol of the Buddha’s enlightened presence and compassion for all beings.

Why This Matters

Throughout Buddhist history, temples have been home to large, awe-inspiring statues of the Buddha. These statues do more than beautify a space—they instill confidence, uplift the heart, and serve as powerful reminders of the path to awakening. For newcomers and seasoned practitioners alike, such sacred objects create an atmosphere where faith can blossom and practice can deepen.

Bringing this statue to life is not just about craftsmanship and gold leaf—it’s about planting the seeds of liberation for all beings. In Buddhist tradition, contributing to the creation of sacred images is one of the most joyful and meaningful ways laypeople can accumulate positive karmic merit. It's an offering of faith, aspiration, and generosity—all in service of the Buddha’s timeless wish: that all beings be free from suffering.

A Statue for Generations to Come

The statue will be crafted in the traditional manner by expert artisans in Nepal, renowned for their skill and devotion. Once installed in our shrine room, it will transform the space for generations, becoming a radiant focal point for prayer, meditation, and inspiration.
