Buddhist Festival: Saga Dawa Duchen - Buddha's Enlightenment and Mahaparanirvana

  • Sakya Buddhist Center Los Angeles 220 Pier Avenue Santa Monica, CA, 90405 United States (map)

Saga Dawa Duchen is one of the Four Great Festivals celebrated in Tibetan buddhism. It commemorates the enlightenment (Sangye Duchen) and passing (mahaparinirvana) of Shakyamuni Buddha.

Lord Buddha achieved enlightenment at Bodhgaya at the age of thirty-five and he demonstrated the impermanence of all phenomena by entering into mahaparinirvana in the town of Kushinagara at the age of eighty.

Join us to celebrate with a traditional puja (group meditation and recitation) of the Praise of the Twelve Deeds of the Buddha and Homage to the Sixteen Sthaviras. Everyone is welcome.
